Nice looking app, but a weak player
I bought this game after being attracted by its nice graphics. Unfortunately I found that the app plays a rather weak game. It is not challenging and I am not an expert player. This game is definitely not rigged. None of the other backgammon games on the App Store are either. Giving the computer the best rolls in any given position would be extremely difficult to program, and as another reviewer noted, what would be the motivation to do so? Making your customers angry at you is not a good marketing strategy.
All of the players complaining about the computer getting the exact rolls it needs too often are simply weak players. That is harsh but true. These players are depending on luck to win the game for them. They are not aware of a psychological trait we humans have which makes us more apt to remember our own bad luck more often than our good luck. If the computer needs to get a certain roll to hit you, then the odds are 1 in 18 that it will get that roll. 1 in 18 comes up more often than you might think. There will be times when you need a certain roll and you will get it, but you will tend not to remember those times.
This game has not been updated for a while. I hope the developer is able to improve the playing strength. However, the only backgammon games capable of playing at World Class level, or even Expert level are those based on Neural Net technology. This game is definitely not one of them. I gave the game 3 stars mostly because of the nice graphics. I believe that charging people for additional skins after they have already paid $3.99 for the app is being a little greedy.
