True Backgammon App Reviews

I wish

I wish I had read the reviews first. The game is computer you know its going to win more often than not. Butttttttt really. How many times would a person roll doubles as many times as the computer, one of my games we were both taking off, the computer got 4 sets of doubles, 2 of which were 6s Not good at writing reviews, but I hope anyone thinking of a purchase, theyll look around.

Very good but...

Ok! You can logout app and re-open it, and tap on the button "back to the game" and keep you scores. Right, so I put the 1 star missing to 5! Excellent.

Nice since now....

But now the language has switch from english to german and I really cant find a way to come back to english....

Great product but needs couple of touch-ups

I enjoy the game but feel it needs some enhancements. 1. When you are offered the cube and the top screen goes up and the bottom screen gives you the choices to accept, reject or redouble - it shows you the PIP count, but you can no longer see how many chips they have left and where they are because it covers part of the screen. Also needed is the current score of the game. I dont like that you have that hidden on another page. It should be somewhere on the main screen while you are playing. Many times I dont know the score and it determines whether or not I should accept or reject the cube. 2. There needs to be a setting for automatic roll when you cant move. When you are stuck on the bar, it is stupid to have to click to roll and click to finish the roll - thats 2 clicks every time. My fingers are actually sore from playing this (I chose to drag). 3. It would also be nice to have the program keep a running score on each completed match showing how many times you won vs. how many times the computer won. You should also have a winning percentage rating - and it would be even better to have the option to play this on the web against other users. Other than that - this product is very, very good.

Loved it, until.....

Until it decided to work backwards. I deleted the app and tried to reinstall, but it wouldnt. Very disappointed as I really loved this game until it did this. I feel like Ive wasted my money!

Great application....

....however the computer definitely gets way too many convenient roles to be realistic, not sure how setting your own dice proves otherwise? Other suggestion is to show four dice when doubles are rolled then grey out each one as they are used. Would love to see the odds leveled, as I really like the design and feel of the play.

DICE ARE OK!

The dice are fair. Simply read the app description here in the app store and follow the instructions how to proof the dice roll whenever you like. Its such a wonderful game, you cant get more for your money!

Dont waste your money

Absolute joke. Computer is favored coming off bar too much. You can stay on bar 10+ rolls even with only a few spaces blocked.

Too predictable

I used to think it was just lucky, but everytime (and I mean everytime) that a piece is left unblocked the computer will roll exactly what it needs to capture your piece. Very frustrating!!!!! The dice is not random. Good look and feel to the game just wish the computer wasnt so lucky. Oh and it would be nice not to see the computer doubles several times in a row. It actually rolled double 5s six times in a row. That is mathematically impossible. If this gets fixed I will change my rating to 5stars. Note to programmer: dont get mad at your users if they are all saying the same thing. Fix it!!!!!

To those who question why to rig a game

Excellent board design but, yes, this app is rigged to get the rolls it needs. Why? Because the developer wants you to stay engaged with the game and not get bored. If a person is a good player and consistently wins, they will likely get bored and pan the game as not being challenging enough. This way you will stay with it and maybe be fooled into thinking its a "challenging" player and recommend it to other players. The strategy backfires with me and many others because it only makes good players, who see whats going on, delete it and buy something different. And more importantly, warn all of YOU about its cheating structure BEFORE you buy it.

Amazing/Beautiful HD Backgammon Board.

This is simply AMAZING just for the board alone, which is beautiful HD and almost feels like a real board. The moviments are FANTASTIC. It deserves 5 stars for that alone. The dice is clearly biased and rolls unbelievable moves (luckiest computer on the planet), but its still fun to play and beat the cheater! The option to use your own dice (real rolls) also makes up for any complaints about the dice. Overall, this app is just the GREATEST and i can honestly say I have never been so happy to discover an app on Apple Store like the day i found this one. Congratulations to the developers, worth every peny.

Ticked

The game is out of here. . . Deleted as of today.

true Backgammon HD

Great game. Lots of fun, but very good in "Expert Mode". Weak players like to think their opponents win because of lucky dice rolls. I actually think the computer makes bad decisions occasionally, but not very often :)

Not fixed but brilliant

No one can have spent the hours I have playing this fabulous game!

Dice ok, Logic good and bad

I view my skill level around b-minus, played 20 5-point matches at Expert level (v3.01), winning 19 of them, and concluded the following: Claims of rigged dice are unfounded. I have never met a random number generator that was truly random, but statistical oddities will, in the long run, not favor the program over the human player. Although it is hard to imagine this program could ever beat me in matches with high point counts, as occasional moves are highly illogical, it is enjoyable to play and is the most competitive I have found so far.

Not what developer claims

After reading the developers plea to disregard claims that rolls are fixed, I made the effort to track actual dice rolls vs computer. Lets just say the computer faired much better than it would have with actual dice rolls. Im not sure what kind of random number generator he used but its not consistently random. Nice graphics but not worth the aggravation

Fixed

I tested and retested and it is fixed. Maybe not fixed but written poorly. The computer 9/10 times gets the exact numbers needs to kill you. Please dont tell me I dont know how to play, Ive been playing this game for 30 years.

Cheeton cheeting cheeting

This app is as honest as Bush second term elections...

Nice looking app, but a weak player

I bought this game after being attracted by its nice graphics. Unfortunately I found that the app plays a rather weak game. It is not challenging and I am not an expert player. This game is definitely not rigged. None of the other backgammon games on the App Store are either. Giving the computer the best rolls in any given position would be extremely difficult to program, and as another reviewer noted, what would be the motivation to do so? Making your customers angry at you is not a good marketing strategy. All of the players complaining about the computer getting the exact rolls it needs too often are simply weak players. That is harsh but true. These players are depending on luck to win the game for them. They are not aware of a psychological trait we humans have which makes us more apt to remember our own bad luck more often than our good luck. If the computer needs to get a certain roll to hit you, then the odds are 1 in 18 that it will get that roll. 1 in 18 comes up more often than you might think. There will be times when you need a certain roll and you will get it, but you will tend not to remember those times. This game has not been updated for a while. I hope the developer is able to improve the playing strength. However, the only backgammon games capable of playing at World Class level, or even Expert level are those based on Neural Net technology. This game is definitely not one of them. I gave the game 3 stars mostly because of the nice graphics. I believe that charging people for additional skins after they have already paid $3.99 for the app is being a little greedy.

Fantastic for One-On-One but Not vs. Computer

Fantastic graphics, game play and animations. My son and I have taken up playing backgammon just because of this great app. We can play anywhere and everywhere. However the vs. computer mode just seems to get exactly what it needs when it needs it. It is so bad that I reflexively watch any blot I leave open as I know that it WILL be hit no matter how remote the possibility. I also play blots as a strategy, as I know that they WILL be hit. I still often win matches against the computer and its maraculous rolls, but it can be frustrating. Buy for the great one-on-one board and game play and maybe for the challenge of playing against a "psychic" computer.
